SPANX seeks a Design Assistant who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment who will be assisting Foundation Designers in designing, developing and producing multiple brands within a product category.

Duties Include:

  • Seasonal/Yearly Concept Presentation:
    • Develops initial concepts with design team
    • Creates presentation boards that communicates the concept through inspiration images, trend information, fabric options and competitive research
    • Competition & Trend Shopping
    • Trend & Inspiration research
    • Competition Samples – organization & management
  • Creates visual presentations
    • Proficient in Illustrator & Photoshop
    • Manages presentation files
  • Partners with the Merchandising team to design products that fill seasonal line plan. Understanding & meeting margin expectations prior to development to insure that the company’s financial goals are met
  • Developing initial sketches for concepts and acquiring design approval
  • Partner with fabric & materials team to select and source materials for the products for the season
    • Supporting in the development of fabrications for future seasons
  • Trim Selecting & Sourcing
    • Creates trim cards for each style in a collection
  • Collaborates with Product Development Manager to insure all materials meet margin expectations
  • Partners with Seamstress to create in house mock-ups
    • Create patterns
    • Gather garments to reference for mock-up construction
  • Communicate Collection intent through
    • Assortment CADs
    • Features and benefits documents (used for various presentations)
  • Partners with Color Team to insure color distinction throughout brands
  • Partners with Production team on vendor allocation of products to insure that the vendor’s capabilities and region are the best fit for the product
  • Insure that PLM is managed with all necessary information:
    • General Page Sketch
    • Design cards:
      • Fabric and trim information (fabric direction, fabric content, etc.)
      • Product sketch
      • Concept/style inspiration
      • Fit intent image
      • Construction explanation and images
      • Fabric and trim key
    • Bill of materials
      • Component information
      • Components updated at the color level
  • Comments and Images from Fittings
  • Communication with vendors throughout proto and fit process to achieve concept approval
  • Assists & supports Designers in proto fittings
  • Reviews protos with quality engineer
  • Collaborates with Technical Design partner throughout the development life of the style
    • Comments – to insure the aesthetic, fit intent & construction is maintained throughout the proto/fit process
    • Pattern revisions
  • Manages garments
    • Competition
    • Vendor samples
    • Set up racks for meetings
    • Collaborates with Merchandising to pull competitive garments



  • Bachelor’s degree in a Product Development or Design emphasis
  • 1-2 years working in Apparel design or development
  • A can-do attitude and flexible domineer
